Employment Opportunities

The Regional Environmental Education Center (REEC) is a new facility nestled within 475 acres of Boyce-Mayview Park just 12 miles south of downtown Pittsburgh. The REEC offers something for everyone, including programs for teachers, students, service groups, government officials, business leaders, and community residents.

At the REEC, educational programming goes beyond curriculum normally associated with a nature center. With a rich local history of Native American use, early settler development, room and pillar coal mining, agriculture and ecological diversity, this facility has a remarkable scope of elements readily at hand for diverse programs, including:

“Community Ties” for Grades 3 and 4 -This curriculum is designed to examine the links and relationships that occur in natural communities and highlights the importance of each organism in sus-taining them.

“A Fresh Look at Ecosystems” for Grades 5 - 7 - Students participating in this program are introduced to ecosystems, the beneficial services they provide to people, and how they change over time.

Community Resource Room - The Community Resource Room was funded by the Grable Foundation and is an opportunity for students and residents in the Pittsburgh region to have free and open access to environmental learning and resources.
